Step one plug in the VCDS cable and turn on the ignition, open the software and you should see the following screen:
Once connected click the select button under select control module

Step two
Click 01-Engine Button – (this will open all Engine Components controlled by the ECU)

Step three
Click coding – 07 This will open the engine coding module

Step four
Click Long Coding Helper

Step five
Click the top left column until No.4 is displayed this will show the gearbox selection box below

Step six
Select your transmission type from the dropdown menu

Click Do it! and this will save the information to the ECU.
